Subaru Winter Experience Breaking News: Dollar Lake is Frozen!

The most important day in the build-up to Subaru Winter Experience is finally upon us: Dollar Lake is officially frozen!

Freezing is the first step in the preparation of our unique ice driving courses. The ice is still not thick enough to drive on, but the weather forecast looks good for that moving forward. That leads us to the next step of the process: working on the track designs, which will be all new for winter 2020.

“We’re excited to announce that Dollar Lake is frozen, because it means we can start developing the best ice tracks in the history of Subaru Winter Experience,” said Subaru Winter Experience founder and Subaru Motorsports USA driver Patrik Sandell. “As our program has been growing, we have to grow with it, and that means adapting our track designs to fit both the normal and the new advanced programs this year. We will also be unveiling our most challenging tracks ever.”

Track design for Subaru Winter Experience is now underway. When the thickness of the ice above Dollar Lake reaches 10 inches, Subaru Winter Experience will begin work with BoatSport Marina to plow the courses before the first drivers hit the ice in early February. BoatSport Marina will remain on hand throughout this year’s Subaru Winter Experience to plow the track as necessary between and during classes. In addition, before the first courses begin, a special ice thickness radar is used to measure all tracks for ice thickness and quality. These measures ensure not only a high-quality driving experience, but also a safe one for all participants.

Each Subaru Winter Experience course gives drivers the opportunity to try out brand new Subaru WRX STIs, WRXs, and BRZs on Dollar Lake in picturesque Eagle River, Wisconsin. Each car is equipped with specially studded tires to handle driving on the ice, while Sandell and the world’s best instructors from DirtFish are on hand to guide participants every step of the way, no matter their skill level. Subaru Winter Experience made its debut in Winter 2018 and is preparing for its third consecutive year at Dollar Lake this winter, with each year bringing more drivers than the last.
